Javier Colon wins NBC's "The Voice"

Javier Colon: NBC's "The Voice" Winner
The top four on "The Voice" - Vicci Martinez, Beverly McClellan, Dia Frampton, and Javier Colon - have had quite a week as they've prepared for the finale -- including getting the star treatment when they stopped by "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" to perform with Rickey Minor.

"When I saw Jay walk in the room," Beverly said, "I was like... man. My stars have changed." We'd say the stars aligned for these four singers quite a while ago.

Vicci Martinez was the first contestant to perform on the Wednesday results show, and before she took the stage, we looked back at her time on "The Voice," beginning with her initial audition when Christina Aguilera and Cee-Lo turned their chairs around. Vicci, unsurprisingly, has no regrets about choosing Cee-Lo to be her coach.

Cee-Lo's pride was evident after he watched Vicci's performance of "Drops of Jupiter" with Pat Monahan of Train. "Vicci, I would like to thank Pat because I know what a sensitive subject matter that song has for him, and I appreciate him sharing that song with you," he told her. He wasn't too concerned with the win or lose of it all, though. "We will forever be bonded because of this experience and we will never be severed by the scrutiny or status quo of the American voting public or everybody's opinion," he said.

After a brief stop in the ever-irritating social media room (why? WHY?) it was time to see @javstwtr -- uh, sorry, we mean Javier Colon -- look back at his "Voice" experience, beginning with his first performance of "Time After Time," which had all four judges' chairs spinning. Javier, of course, chose to be on Team Adam.

It hasn't been the easiest road for Javier, but not for any lack of talent. He admits that being away from his kids has taken its toll on occasion. "They know that daddy's singing," he says. "They might not know why, but they will. They will. I'm doing this for them. Before 'The Voice' my future in music was looking grim. There's nothing that I've ever wanted more than to win this competition."

His future certainly wasn't looking grim when he blew the audience away during a duet of "Landslide" with the legendary Stevie Nicks. It's hard to imagine anything better than having someone like her want to sing with you - she even got Christina Aguilera up out of her chair.

"I told Stevie Nicks I wasn't going to cry on national television, so I'm not going to cry," Adam said, addressing Javier. "That's the coolest thing you've ever done, other than have kids probably, and get married. I'm pretty speechless. You just sang with Stevie Nicks and that's one of the most beautiful duets I've ever heard in my life... Good luck, man, and you deserve to win this competition."

Finally, it was time to crown the winner, as the four contestants stood on stage holding each other close. "The voting was extremely close," Carson said. "The Top 2 were within only 2% of each other." Those top two artists were Dia Frampton and Javier Colon, which came as little surprise to us. Christina and Cee-Lo took the stage to congratulate their competition and say goodbye to their team members, Beverly and Vicci.

"Something very cool happened last night after we got off the air," he continued. "One of our artists hit #2 on iTunes, and that artist was Javier Colon. Another one of our artists hit #1, and that was Dia Frampton."

In the end, those numbers were not indicative of the win -- Javier Colon, the frontrunner since the beginning, took the title of Season 1 winner of "The Voice."

"Thank you," Javier choked out at the end. "I don't even know where to begin other than to say that the three women behind me are absolutely awesome and it was a pleasure to be here with them."

Remembering Alex Brown Foundation

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition helps
the Brown Family to remind America not to text and drive!

Actress Emma Roberts and teen sensation Justin Bieber appeared on ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition last night in honor of the Remember Alex Brown Foundation, an organization created to educate teens about the dangers of texting while driving.  The Extreme Makeover crew rebuilt the Brown home in Lubbock, TX, now occupied by the remaining three family members, Jeanne, Johnny Mac, and Alex’s 12-year-old sister Katrina.  Jeanne and Johnny Brown decided to create the Remember Alex Brown foundation the day their daughter, 17-year-old Alex, was killed while texting and driving last year.
“I chose to do it that day at the hospital,” her dad Johnny said.  After losing his eldest daughter, he thought to himself, “We have to put the [wrecked] truck on a trailer, and we have to go to schools and tell people about the dangers of texting and driving.”
A September 2010 survey released by State Farm insurance showed that “fewer teens view texting while driving as leading to fatal consequences as compared to drinking while driving.”  Only 36% of teens ages 14-17 “strongly agree that if they regularly text and drive they could be killed one day.”  55% strongly agree that drinking while driving could be fatal.
It turns out, teens who admit to texting while driving believe they are less likely to get in an accident than teens who never text while they drive.  That makes sense, but it’s totally scary nonetheless.  Research has shown that “the impairments associated with talking on a cell phone can be as profound as those associated with driving while intoxicated during those times when drivers are directly engaged in cell phone use.”  Additionally, “The National Safety Council estimates that 200,000 crashes each year are caused by drivers who are texting."

Nissan To Make History Today!

America's First 100% Electric Car: The Nissan Leaf

NISSAN TO MAKE HISTORY WITH DELIVERY OF WORLD’S FIRST 100% ELECTRIC NISSAN LEAF TO CALIFORNIA CONSUMER

Tomorrow, Nissan North America Inc. (NNA) will make history by bringing sustainable mobility to the mass market, with the world’s first delivery of a Nissan LEAF all-electric vehicle. Olivier Chalouhi, a San Francisco Bay Area resident and the first person in the United States to place a Nissan LEAF order, will take delivery of his black Nissan LEAF SL at North Bay Nissan of Petaluma. The delivery will be followed by a press conference at San Francisco City Hall Plaza. This groundbreaking moment represents the first delivery of an affordable, mass-market, all-electric car since the first days of the automotive era.

Chalouhi, a 31-year-old entrepreneur is the founder of Fanhattan, a venture-backed stealth start-up in the connected TV space, where he serves as chief technology officer. He currently lives in Redwood City, Calif, with his wife, Jana, and their two children and holds a master’s degree in computer science from the French Aeronautical and Space School. Before purchasing his Nissan LEAF, Chalouhi commuted to work on an electric bicycle.

“Electricity is the new fuel for cars, and the Nissan LEAF has the potential to transform the automotive industry and the way people drive,” said Carlos Tavares, Chairman, Nissan Americas. “Starting today, drivers have the freedom to choose a future that produces zero tailpipe emissions, moves away from our dependence on fossil fuels, and represents the end of trips to the gas station. This Nissan LEAF delivery is the first of thousands and signifies the dawn of a movement that brings sustainable mobility to within our grasp.”

The San Francisco Bay Area events kick off more than a week of festivities, as Nissan delivers the first Nissan LEAF vehicles to each of its primary launch markets in Southern California, Arizona, Oregon, Seattle and Tennessee. Nissan also is donating $25,000 to the World Wildlife Fund to mark the occasion.

The initial Nissan LEAF deliveries will be followed by a second shipment of Nissan LEAF electric cars scheduled to arrive on Dec. 20 and destined for consumer driveways in time for the holidays. Nissan is on track for a nationwide launch of the Nissan LEAF by 2012, with Hawaii and Texas next to roll out in early 2011. In order to fulfill interest and meet demand in initial launch markets, Nissan plans to reopen reservations in the first half of 2011 as well as shift timing of additional markets until the second half of 2011.

Nissan Leaf is Already Winning Awards!

The 2011 Nissan Leaf

NISSAN LEAF POWER SYSTEM NAMED TO WARD'S ‘10 BEST ENGINES’

100% electric drive system is first zero-emission winner in award’s history

Fort Wayne Nissan's is proud to announce that Nissan LEAF’s 100-percent electric, zero-emission drive system is included on Ward's prestigious ‘10 Best Engines’ list for 2011. It is the first time in the 17-year history of the magazine’s ‘10 Best Engines’ that the selection committee has chosen a power system which doesn’t have an engine and will never burn a drop of gasoline.

“We engineered Nissan LEAF to have drive characteristics that would impress drivers, whether you’re comparing it with other electric vehicles or those powered by internal combustion engines,” said Carlos Tavares, Chairman, Nissan Americas. “The inclusion of Nissan LEAF in Ward’s ‘10 Best Engines’ demonstrates that the Nissan LEAF can compete with all top vehicles, no matter the propulsion system.”

The all-new Nissan LEAF features a high-response 80kW AC synchronous motor powered by a 24 kWh lithium-ion battery manufactured at the Automotive Energy Supply Corporation (AESC) operation in Zama, Japan, which is a joint-venture of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and NEC Corporation. Both motor and inverter have been developed by Nissan, and the power system generates 107 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque. The power is transferred to the wheels through a single-speed reduction gear.

Unlike a conventional internal combustion engine, Nissan LEAF delivers maximum torque from start, providing smooth, consistent acceleration. Performance in the low-to-medium speed range is equivalent to that of a vehicle powered by a V6 gasoline engine. This power system provides a highly responsive, fun-to-drive experience consistent with consumers’ expectations for traditional, gasoline-powered vehicles.

The 2011 Nissan LEAF goes on sale this month in selected markets in the United States and will be available nationwide in 2012.

The awards will be presented at a Jan. 12, 2011 ceremony in Detroit during the North American International Auto Show. A full story on the ‘Ward's 10 Best Engines’ is now available on WardsAuto.com. *Article from NissanNews.com
